The Committee are delighted to have received the results for the South & South East in Bloom - RHS 'It's Your Neighbourhood' competition 2024, in which Millfield Allotments Association managed to retain its 'Outstanding' result for the second year running!
The competition is judged on three areas:
1) Community Participation (40% of overall mark), where Millfield scored 34/40.
2) Environmental Responsibility (30% of overall mark), where Millfield scored 25/30.
3) Gardening Achievement (30% of overall mark), where Millfield scored 27/30.
Praise was received for the tidiness and good order to the allotment site, and the judges noted the popularity of our honey and the vital funds its sale brings to the upkeep of our allotments. If you haven’t tried our honey yet, you really need to!
Our strong community spirit and plethora of social events organised throughout the year were noted, and the diverse range of growing techniques from other countries being used by plot holders was also celebrated.
It was also noted that plots are all occupied and being inspected effectively, as well as successful management of the waiting list for new plot holders.
The judges recognised the difficult growing year we have had given the water leak, but praised everyone’s dedication in continuing through the hardship.
