Faversham Archaeology Visit

Over the 24th and 25th May 2024, the Faversham Society Archaeological Research Group (FSARG) will be visiting Millfield Allotments to conduct a number of small digs to investigate and hopefully learn more about the history of our wonderful allotments. This is a very exciting event as the allotment site has never been archaeologically investigated before.

The digs will be undertaken on several locations around the site which have been agreed with the Committee (don’t worry, your veggies are safe!). The group will not go onto plots without authorisation from plotholders. If you would like the surface of your plot to be investigated, please complete our contact form ASAP.

Plotholders wanting to get involved with the event are also invited to start collecting any interesting items they find on their plot in a small container. These will then be reviewed by FSARG. At the end of this article are some images supplied by FSARG with examples of what to look out for! Please leave containers, clearly labelled with your plot number, outside of the Garden Room before Friday 24th May.

During the event the Garden Room will be open for FSARG to use as their HQ, where all finds will be labelled and dated. All finds will be retained by the Association, and put on display in the Garden Room.
